There is a fear of influenza spreading across the country
Seasonal influenza has also raised alarm bells in Pakistan, the National Institutes of Health has warned.
In this regard, it has been said in the advisory that the cases of seasonal flu are likely to increase in winter (December to February) in different parts of the country. There is a need to take prompt preventive measures and be proactive across the country.
Seasonal flu is a treatable disease. The virus of this disease spreads through coughing or sneezing in the open air and through the hands of the patient.
When a healthy person breathes in or touches infected objects, the virus is spread to them.
According to the advisory, the elderly, children below five years of age, pregnant women, people suffering from chronic diseases are at risk of getting affected early by this disease. The flu vaccine can be given to prevent seasonal flu.
Pregnant women, immunocompromised and chronically ill patients and healthcare workers should be vaccinated.
The Public Health Emergency Operation Center set up at the National Institutes of Health is regularly monitoring the seasonal flu situation.
