American Express and Worldpay are renewing their relationships

American Express and Worldpay have signed a new agreement that makes it even easier for small businesses to welcome loyal, high-spending American Express cardholders.

The agreement is part of a continued strategic approach by American Express to drive the company’s momentum in the UK and expand the number of locations where its cardholders can spend money. In the UK, the total number of locations accepting Amex has increased by 46% over the last three years.1

Worldpay is a long-time partner of American Express; The new regulation offers small businesses another option to accept payments with Amex cards. By adding American Express as a payment option, small businesses can spend more and improve their checkout experience.

Both Worldpay and its merchants will benefit from a simpler experience under the new agreement: they will receive a single statement to reconcile their transactions, a settlement process, a simpler onboarding journey and a single service contact.

Dan Edelman, Vice President and UK General Manager, Merchant Services at American Express, said: “As our cardholder base in the UK continues to grow, we have made great progress in expanding our merchant coverage. This new strategic agreement will accelerate our progress, meaning thousands more small businesses across the country can benefit from adding Amex cardholders who spend on average 3.9x more per year and 3.2x more frequently than Non-cardholders.”

Chris Wood, General Manager SMB International and US Direct at Worldpay, said: “By working with American Express, we are pleased to provide our merchant base in the UK and Ireland with more opportunities to benefit from the spending power of loyal customers.” Amex cardholders . Consumers expect to pay the way they want. By enabling our merchants to expand their choice of payment options more seamlessly, we help them better serve their customers.”

Globally, the number of locations that accept American Express has more than tripled since 2017, giving existing and new cardholders more and more options for paying money.
