Google is once again changing its mobile payment services, displacing Google Pay in the US in favor of Google Wallet.

The standalone Google Pay application will disappear on June 4 to “simplify the app experience,” it said in a statement.

Americans can use the most popular features – paying in stores with a tap and managing payment methods – through Google Wallet. However, P2P payments will no longer be available.

Google Wallet first appeared more than a decade ago, but was renamed Android Pay in 2015 and again to Google Pay in 2018.

In 2022, Wallet made a comeback and replaced Pay in most countries, but Google decided to offer both apps in the US.

Since Wallet is now used five times more than Pay in the US, the company decided to use a single app.
