Customers nationwide are affected by payment delays

Nationwide said an “error” on Friday morning caused all payments between the company and other banks and building societies to be delayed.

In a service update on social media this morning, Nationwide told customers: “We’re sorry, payments to and from other building societies and banks are currently being delayed.”

Transfers between federal accounts, direct debits, standing orders and card payments were not affected.

Around midday, the company reported that “payments are now flowing again and all queued payments will be processed in the next few hours.”

However, many customers were unimpressed by the update.

One said on Twitter: “In the next few hours 🤔 I’ve been sitting here without power since 9am as I still can’t pay it from my account. Compensation sounds like a great idea #nationwide.”

Angry another: “I’m closing my accounts with Nationwide. This is absolutely useless!!! AVOID NATIONWIDE GUYS!!!!!!”
