Severe weather in Italy caused havoc, dozens injured

Heavy rains in Italy’s canal city of Venice on Tuesday pushed water levels up 170cm above normal, the highest this year, but still below the 187cm rise – the highest in 50 years. I have the most – reported in 2019, city officials said.
Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said that thanks to a “Mossi” system of 78 separate mobile floodgates that became partially operational in 2020, the latest water surge did not result in widespread flooding.
