No need to deploy central forces in Vizhanjam: LDF, Congress
,
The High Court asked the state and central governments to discuss the possibility of deploying central forces there on the Adani Group’s request.
Congress MP and former Kerala PCC president K Muralidharan also opposed the deployment of central forces.
“Protests cannot be stopped by intimidation by bringing central forces. If the state government objects, central forces will not come,” he said.
Muralidharan, son of Congress leader and former chief minister K Karunakaran, said, “However, if the state government wants central forces here under the guise of Adani’s help, then any action taken by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be responsible for.”
He said that dialogue is the only way to solve the problem.
“We initiated the plan and therefore, we want it to be implemented, but not at the cost of tears of the fishermen. Their concerns should be addressed,” he said.
Durkoval said unofficial talks are also going on with the protesting fishermen. The minister said that with the Assembly convened from December 5, the Chief Minister and other ministers will be in the state capital and hence further discussions are possible.
He also said that no sane person would try to stop a project that would cost thousands of crores of rupees to the public and that there was no need for a fresh study by stopping the work.
The minister added that a high-level committee is already conducting a study and submits a report every six months.
“There is nothing in any of the studies to indicate that the project could cause adverse effects,” he said.
About 40 policemen were injured in the November 27 Vijanjam police station attack in which 3,000 protesters took part, after which Adani approached the High Court seeking protection from central forces.
