Pakistan seeks US help to revive IMF program

Pakistan sought US help to restore the IMF program and ease terms. The US official assured Finance Minister Ishaq Dar of cooperation in economic and financial matters.
As per details, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar met Robert Kiproth, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Department. In which the economic condition of Pakistan and the relations between the two countries were discussed.
Isaac Dar briefed US officials on government priorities. Information was given about the economic losses caused by the recent severe floods.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the government has inherited a weak economy, but despite the difficulties, the government is trying to fix the economic issues.
Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan will fulfill its international obligations. Reforms are being brought in to take the economy in the right direction. Reforms are taking place in energy sector, capital market for economic development.
He said that Pakistan needs help in this situation as the industry and agriculture sector are passing through the most difficult phase after the devastating floods. Help persuade the IMF to ease Pakistan’s loan program, acknowledging the challenges posed by floods and other external factors.
The Finance Minister pointed out that apart from domestic problems, the rupee is also under pressure due to smuggling of foreign currencies, especially the US dollar, into Afghanistan and Iran.
On this occasion, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Treasury Robert Kapruth emphasized on the good relations between Pakistan and US.
Robert Kapruth expressed confidence in the government’s policies and programs for economic and financial stability.
He also assured his support and cooperation on economic and financial matters, to which the Finance Minister thanked Robert Kaprath.
