According to Hindustan Times, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said in a statement that joint teams of security forces were going on an anti-Naxal operation after receiving specific information about a gathering of Maoists in the forest. The team included personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The IG said the police had information about Communist Party of India (Maoist) Mandal Committee member Mohan Kadati and Sumitra along with 30 to 40 associates hiding near the Pomra-Hilur forest.
The IG said that when a DRG team pounced on the Maoists, they opened fire and after the firing stopped, bodies of four Maoists, including two women, were recovered along with three weapons.
