Italian banking group Cassa Centrale has entered into exclusive negotiations with Worldline for a long-term payment partnership.

The deal will see Worldline provide payment acceptance and acquiring to Cassa Centrale’s 66 bank branches.

The project includes the delivery and management of POS terminals as well as the exclusive acquisition for international circles for more than 90,000 terminals, which generated a transaction volume of more than nine billion euros in 2023.

A partnership would be a major boost for France’s Worldline in Italy, doubling the number of its dealers and terminals in the country.

Last month, the payments processor’s shares fell after the company reported a net loss due to a €1.15 billion impairment in merchant services and a worsening outlook. A cost-cutting program was also launched, which resulted in the loss of 1,400 jobs.
