Hychain Games has announced that it will launch a closed beta version of its Minecraft-inspired web3 video game, Hytopia, this month after the developer generated $8 million from the sale of a node, according to a statement.

The company allows users to contribute to the security and functionality of its layer 2 blockchain, also called Hychain, “while earning rewards through a pool of 250 million TOPIA tokens,” according to the Hychain Games release. “In just 48 hours after announcing the node sale, Hychain generated 2,098 ETH ($8 million at the time of sale), with 254 ETH ($1 million) distributed among the creators,” a- he also indicated.

Game developer Web3 first announced the node sale last month. Hychain Games was previously known as the Minecraft-based NFT Worlds project. The developer is using the Layer 2 Hychain blockchain to power its new video game Hytopia, which the company says has over 1 million pre-registered players.

Following the node sale, Hychain developers launched their mainnet on March 9, allowing users to transact, deploy contracts, build systems and more,” Hychain Games said in his press release.

Minecraft developer banned NFT integrations

The launch of Hytopia’s free closed beta comes nearly two years after NFT Worlds was forced to devise a new strategy. NFT Worlds used Minecraft source code as the basis for its NFT-powered metaverse, but Mojang Studios, the developer behind Minecraft, banned NFT integrations.

Hychain Games now hopes that Hytopia will satisfy players who might feel frustrated or limited by Minecraft’s structure and policies.

Although Minecraft’s user base exceeds 150 million, its restrictive monetization and creation ecosystem has left a void for a new platform that emphasizes modding, performance, monetization and creation,” Hychain said in his statement. “Hytopia aims to directly address the challenges faced by Minecraft. Minecraft creators, such as strict EULA constraints and technical limitations that restrict monetization opportunities and creative freedom.
